Grate Chef

OK, so if you know anything about grilling or smoking, you know that the grates are going to get dirty. They get dirty from the food sticking to the grates or the sauce that you have on your meats, or even the rubs you have on the meats will burn onto the grates from time to time. It is important to keep those grates clean to have the best tasting and best looking food on the block. That is where the folks at Grate Chef come in to help. They have a variety of products to keep your grates and grills looking clean. They sent me a few items to test out and to get my thoughts. So here they are:

Grill Wipes.

Nothing worse than having some good-looking chicken grilling away, and you got to flip it and part of the meat is sticking to the grates and you lift it off and it tears the meat. You can forget about trying to flip a piece of fish if your grates aren’t treated right, it will tear it all apart. The Grill Wipes by Grate Chef helps oil the grates and prevents foods from sticking. It will also help clean the grates to keep your grates looking new for a long time.

Pros: Works on any grate, oils the grates to keep them looking good and helps keep the foods from sticking. Works with any grill brush to be able to apply the wipes to the grate, no special tool needed.

Cons: Only 6 in a package. So, I suggest grabbing a few packages to last you awhile.

Overall: Awesome product to have around any grill. Just have the grill on low heat, grab a grill brush push onto the wipe with the brush and wipe away the dirt on the grates and oil em up so those foods won’t be sticking anymore.

FireStarters

As a griller, I will avoid the use of any lighter fluid if possible. The fluid leaves a nasty taste on the food and ruins a good burger. There are several ways to light a chimney of charcoal without the use of fluids. That is where the Grate Chef FireStarters come into play. Mix one or two of these packets into your charcoal and light em up and they will take care of the rest.

Pros: Anytime you don’t have to use lighter fluid to light your coals is a good thing in my book. These packets are universal and work not just on Charcoal, but you can use them to start your campfire while out in the woods, get your indoor/outdoor fireplace roaring on those cool nights, and even your pellet stoves. All without having any smells on your hands or nasty fumes in the air.

Cons: No cons here, FireStarters are always good. *When used properly*

Overall: Easy way to light your charcoal, and none of the nasty taste on your food? Yes Please!! These packets will burn away in about 10 minutes so there is no worry of the remnants being there to get on the food. Great for indoor fireplaces because they do not give off any harmful fumes when burning either. Add in that these bad boys are waterproof and they make for the must have camping accessory.

The Groover All-In-One Cleanser.

We have already established in this review about how important it is to keeping your grates clean. This Cleanser will help in that whole process. This is a commercial grade cleaner, so you know this will work on your grates at home.

Pros: All in one, scrubber/cleaner cleans away even the tough stuff. Just have the grill warmed up and clean away. Combine this with the Grill Wipes and you have yourself the ultimate clean.

Cons: Only a 3 pack for these. If you have a couple of grills like me, your will need a few packs of these to last you awhile.

Overall: Commercial grade cleaner in one easy to use pouch/pad? What’s better than that to be able to treat and clean your grates to keep them looking good for a long time. Combine them with the Grill Wipes and you will have your grates looking as if they are brand new. Oh, and your clean grates make for those awesome Grill Marks on your food.

Flaredown

Flaredown, no this isn’t a reference to the Wrestler Rick Flair being down (please tell me you know who that is?) Flare ups, always a problem when you are trying to grill. Don’t get me wrong, a little flame kissed steak is good, but a flare up could be a big problem if not kept in check. The grease from the meats can cause a nasty little fire and cause you to burn your meat, and nobody likes burnt meat. Flaredown helps this out.

Pro’s: Handy squirt bottle to keep those pesky flare ups in check. No need to have burnt meat.

Cons: nothing

Overall: A fire extinguisher for your grill that is safe on your food. Just spray this at the base of the flame to snuff out those flare ups, and save your food.
